{Home for wayward kitties}

Yesterday while I was in class I received a text from Hans..
A picture of a large gray cat
Apparently he heard this cat mewing in the bushes so he went out, crouched down and called it, and the cat came running and jumped into his lap!
And we find ourselves with cat number 5.
I believe that this is a Russian Blue.. he has the classic dark green eyes and plush coat.
Oooh I just heard thunder!
Hans named him Styrr (pronounced Steer) which is Icelandic for "battle".

{Penny historical}

Today we went to a park while waiting for some other photos to be developed.
There we found a replica log cabin of Abraham Lincoln's stepmother, Sarah Bush.
It was cozy- I wouldn't have minded living there myself.
I peeked in the window and saw a chest, 3 wooden chairs and a bed covered by a quilt.
The garden surrounding the cabin was quite delightful- black-eyed susans, sweet peas, butterfly bushes, clover and many other plants too.
There were 2 birdhouses in the garden as well- both previously occupied.
Near the cabin was a tiny cemetery.
There were also 2 totem poles throughout the garden.
The lake was covered in ducks and geese.

{Not}

Last Christmas I received a ticket for Comic-Con (today).
Alas I cannot go because I cannot afford a plane ticket.

This is the first time in 2 years that I haven't gone..
I am heart-broken and in tears.

{Preoccupied}

My, have I been busy!
Laundry, cleaning, reorganizing..

I signed up for a Red Cross CNA class on base.
Only 2 nights a week, 8 hours.
Plus I get to work while I'm in school.
It'll really help me catch up financially!

Of course I'm not giving up on my dream of becoming an RN, but this will help me get back on my feet after being fucked over by Kaplan College.
I want to write all about it.. but I don't want to get into trouble for libel.
(Google "complaints against Kaplan College").. similar to what I experienced.
Let's just say going to school there was THE WORST mistake I've made in my life, and will ever make.
However, I will not let it destroy me.
I look forward to the future and whatever it will bring me.

{Adventures}

Well we had quite an adventure yesterday!
Me, Hans, his buddy Travis and Travis' friend Shelley all went out to explore some cave.
We drove and parked next to an abandoned wooden church.
I saw a deer skull as I stepped out of the car.
Hiked through woods for awhile.
Very hot and humid.
I would've taken more pictures but it was hard enough keeping up with soldier's stride.
We hiked along some railroad tracks and came upon a waterfall.
We had to climb it, and it led to an even bigger waterfall.
Us girls just couldn't make it, so we remained on a log while the boys went ahead to the cave.
It was very peaceful.. we saw a train go by, a giant daddy long legs spider, a baby millipede and tons of butterflies.
Once the boys poked their heads out of an opening in the cliff above the waterfall.
We were expecting them to sneak up on us and frighten us, but that didn't happen.
When they did come sliding down the mountain, Hans told me about how he caught a bat!
There were stalactites and stalagmites in the cave, as well as transparent crawfish.
Then we all slid down the mountain and hiked back to the car.
We were filthy but hungry, so went to some restaurant and I got fries.
Back to the barracks on base for awhile, and then homeways we went.. exhausted!

{Hello again}

Ah, it would appear that I am consumed with busyness!
I've been studying German more often, playing my violin, sewing.. haha about a million sewing and craft projects.
Beginning to prepare and make plans for our Christmas trip/move to Georgia, both of which are occurring in December.
So much to do.. find someone to care for the menagerie in our absence, planning things to do once in California, finding the perfect home in Georgia..
Last week the cats knocked down the birdcage and ate my canary.. I am still a bit sad.
There's a wild field near our apartment and we camped there last week also.
I am a bit glum to not be back home right now.. I'm missing Comic-Con and Pride.

{Late 4th}

We has a lovely 4th of July!
I cooked an all-American dinner: maple baked beans, cornbread, blackberry pie and lemonade.
We went swimming at a local pool.
I love my new swimsuit!
After that we went to visit our Panamanian neighbors.
Then we went on base to see some cover band and watch fireworks.
I got eaten alive by mosquitoes.. 15 bites!
Saw dozens of lightning bugs and a few bats too!
The fireworks were amazing!
